While a lot of hoopla surrounds actor Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan’s weight gain after pregnancy, a heavily pregnant Shilpa Shetty is working towards staying fit as she enjoys her last month of pregnancy.
“I can’t believe how time flies. Can’t wait for the D-day,” exclaims Shilpa, referring to the nearing impending day. About the baby shower that was held for her recently, she recalls, “It was such a good fun. My sister Shamita and close friends Kiran and Rupali hosted the do. With all my friends attending it, the day turned out to be a very special day for me.”
Shilpa is also making sure that her delivery is smooth with her strict prenatal regimes. “Staying fit during pregnancy is very important. A balance between exercise and a good healthy diet is important. I never diet as I believe your body knows what it wants! I eat everything, but proportionately. Even if I have dessert (since I have a sweet tooth), it’s in moderation.I don’t force myself to eat, just try and ensure that the food is fresh and homemade. I avoid fizzy drinks and junk food, but occasionally indulging in thin crust pizza or vada pao is fine. I try and include more nuts, fresh foods, milkshakes and yogurts that will help to enhance the baby’s growth. Most importantly I include calcium, folic acid and iron tablets. Breathing exercises and walking keeps me going as well,” she reveals.
The actor also stresses on the importance of prenatal massages. She advises expectant mothers saying, “If advised by the doctor, please do take prenatal massages after the fifth month once a week or in two weeks. The massage helps you stay calm and improves circulation, prevents water retention while hydrating your body and prevents stretch marks. But the most important thing is that it makes you feel pampered and great.” (Smiles)
Pregnancy hasn’t stopped Shilpa from being pro-active. From handling her cricket team to taking care of her husband Raj Kundra’s new venture with good friend Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa has kept herself at the helm ofthings. “I have my priorities right, so it becomes easier to dedicate time and manage all the different ventures. And I believe that if you are healthy, you are more active and in a happier state of mind. For me, working out has always had to do with staying fit, rather than having a good body,” she said.
How does she spend her time when she’s not working? “I am glued to the TV, cheering for my team when they are on field. We have had ups and downs, but have bounced back strongly. I am really proud of them!” exclaims Shilpa.
